At Sako Whitetails, we strive to produce the best. Our breeding program started in 2006 with a dream to grow large bucks. We started with one buck and five does. With the ambition of the father and son duo, the herd grew and surpassed our dreams. We currently have over three hundred deer in pens, with a full working facility and AI facility.
From the beginning, the duo focused on breeding the largest, most beautiful, and most typical bucks possible. Our aim is strictly large, pure Texas typicals. The herd foundation comes from the original typical breeder, Robert Williams, along with Tommy Dugger and Wheeler genetics. The cornerstone of our breeding operation started with Sako Solomon. He is a giant, pure Texas typical and is the epitome of what we breed for: a big and wide frame. He scored over 260″ with a 28.5″ inside spread and he produces even larger bucks. In 2013 he produced his largest two-year-old pure Texas sons. Three of his sons scored over 230″, with the largest going over 250″ in hard horns.
The key ingredients to every herd are its does. Our foundation doe herd is greatly influenced by Prickly Pear, BB Peanut, Dugger 308 line, Wheeler, and Solomon. Our doe herd is focused mainly on five “power” does: Merrybelle, P129, Snow White, O400, and Annabelle. All of these does have bucks out of them that are 250″+, and are WIDE, Big FRAME, and TYPICAL bucks. Does that do not meet our standards are weeded out.
The herd has grown from there, with the focus still being to grow giant typicals. The gene pool was expanded by buying into herd sire Maxbo Prickly (325″ at 3), who produces beautiful, huge typicals; and through a very aggressive Artificial insemination program—–breeding only to the best sires the industry has to offer. Our AI sires include: Monarch 1, Bambi 20-28, Monarch Supreme, RW 007, Gladiator Cochise, Moab, Kid Rock, Maxbo Prickly, Sako Solomon, Jumbo, Billy the Kid, Fed Ex, BB Peanut, BB Prickly, Rolex, X-Factor, Gladiator Express, SW GQ, Clyde, Max Dream, Maxbo 727, The Dangerous one, Xtasy, and Maxbo Starbuck.
Our entire herd is DNA certified and registered in the North American Deer Registry.
Every breeding doe is bottle raised to ensure better conception rate for AI.
